DJI Dock 4: drone dock with battery swap in 25 s

DJI Dock 4

The DJI Dock 4 is an autonomous station that houses a Matrice 5TD drone, prepares it, and relaunches it remotely. Its key innovation: a fully automatic battery swap in under 25 seconds. No more waiting for a recharge between missions. It is suited for emergency response, site security, infrastructure inspection, and mapping.

DJI Dock 4: the drone station that chains missions without downtime

Until now, a drone station had to recharge the device after each flight, grounding it for long minutes. The DJI Dock 4 changes the approach: it removes the spent battery and installs a new one in a fully automatic process. The Matrice 5TD drone is back in the air in less than 45 seconds after landing and remains ready for the next alert, day or night.

Designed for organizations that cannot afford to leave a site unmonitored, the Dock 4 targets public safety services, emergency response teams, remote infrastructure operators, security companies, and surveying professionals.

Key features

  • Automated battery swap in less than 25 seconds, for a complete cycle under 45 seconds
  • Built-in reserve of three spare batteries, two of which can be charged simultaneously
  • Stored batteries usable as a backup power supply for the station
  • Remote launch on a single command, with no pilot present on site
  • Operation from -40°C to 50°C: battery pre-heating in extreme cold, air conditioning in extreme heat
  • Dedicated video link via the DJI O4 Ground Station, with drone-to-cloud latency as low as 160 ms
  • IP56 protection for outdoor installation
  • Flight termination system (FTS) triggerable manually or upon exiting the geofencing zone
  • Mounting on a 400 × 400 mm pattern, identical to that of the Dock 3
  • Eligible for DJI Care Enterprise Plus, a first for a DJI dock

A battery swap that eliminates waiting time

On a conventional station, the recharge time sets the pace of operations: as long as the battery isn't ready, the drone stays grounded. With the Dock 4, that delay disappears. The automatic arm replaces the pack in a matter of seconds, the aircraft remains powered throughout the operation, and the mission resumes almost immediately.

The removed batteries recharge inside the station, which can handle two at a time. The result: multiple consecutive flights without human intervention, which truly changes the game for repeat alerts or night patrols.

A drone ready to take off the moment an alert occurs

The Dock 4 operates in "open and fly" mode: the Matrice 5TD takes off on remote command and can reach an incident before ground teams arrive. Images are transmitted live to help operators assess the situation and prepare their response.

Paired with the DJI O4 Ground Station, the dedicated link reduces transmission latency by approximately 32% compared to the previous generation, delivering a smoother video feed. This station can also be installed at height to maintain stable communication in cluttered environments (buildings, terrain, vegetation).

The Matrice 5TD, an aircraft for every context

The Dock 4 works exclusively with the DJI Matrice 5TD, a multi-sensor enterprise drone. It features wide-angle and infrared cameras, a mmWave radar, and a LiDAR. These sensors facilitate night flying and obstacle avoidance, including hard-to-spot guy-wires.

Real-time AI detection recognises 17 types of objects, speeding up the identification of people or vehicles. The drone can fly for up to 59 minutes on a single battery. In excessive wind conditions, the automatic descent and return function brings the aircraft safely back to the station.

Reliable operation in challenging conditions

The Dock 4 is designed to remain operational year-round: it heats its batteries in cold weather, activates its air conditioning in intense heat, and its IP56 rating protects it from dust and powerful water jets. It is therefore suited to exposed sites such as rooftops, industrial installations, mountain areas, or energy infrastructure.

Safety and compliance

The flight termination system (FTS) cuts the propellers on operator demand or automatically if the aircraft crosses the boundaries of the geofencing zone. DJI presents it as a key technical element for C6 class compliance. For equipment protection, the Dock 4 is the first dock eligible for DJI Care Enterprise Plus, which provides free replacement of eligible repair parts within the limits of the subscribed coverage.

Simple installation that scales easily

If you already have a Dock 3, the 400 × 400 mm mounting pattern is identical, making station replacement straightforward. The Dock 4 requires the DJI O4 Ground Station, which handles the video link, RTK base, and network connection. Note: it is not compatible with the Matrice 4TD, so an existing fleet will need to be renewed to take advantage of it.

Ideal for

  • Public safety operations and emergency response
  • Remote site surveillance and night-time security
  • Regular infrastructure inspection (energy, telecommunications, industry)
  • Recurring surveys and topographic mapping
